Programmes
To date, we have organised over 100 activities and we have seen over 1000
children who went through our activities. The activities are generally
divided as follows;
The 'JEGOM' programme, for 6 - 14 year olds, instilling
environmental awareness, basic camping skills and a love of and concern
for the environment and its importance to all of us. Following the
Millennium Children's Conference, in the UK in 2000, we are linking up
with UNEP Pachamama project in the hope to making more children to
be responsible towards the environment, both locally and globally.
The Eco-Youth Challenge & Adventure (EYCA) programme,
for young people aged 14 years old and above. EYCA programme is on-going
series of activities, designed to expose young people to the natural
environment, learn new skills, whilst challenging them to think for
themselves, lead others and work in teams. EYCA's first activity was the
Leeuwin Ocean Adventure (January 2000), a five day sail on a 350
ton three-mast sail training ship in Western Australia, where 20 Malaysian
joined 20 Australian youths to help sail the ship.
Early this year. EYCA started an 'AirWatch' project which was
sponsored by Department of Environmental Protection of Western Australia.
Networking with the Young Entrepreneurial Organisation, Malaysian
chapter, several Yayasan youths took part in the Teenage
Entrepreneurial Development project.
The Eco-Youth Coordinators are members who have been
active in past activities and have reached the age of 18. They may stay
on as Eco-youth members or take up a training programme to become
Eco-Youth coordinators. Their involvement in YAWA is to act as mentors
to the younger members and help to coordinate activities.
